ANTSHE is an international partnership of students, academic professionals, institutions and organizations whose mission is to encourage and coordinate support, education and advocacy for the adult learning community. Increasingly, the demographics of higher education are changing. Today's collegiate landscape is vastly different from the college of ten, twenty, or thirty years ago. In this dawn of the twenty-first century, only 20% of students in college are full-time, living on campus, and under twenty-two years of age. Progressively, students are older and have the added responsibilities of a job, a spouse, and children. Non-traditional students have entirely different needs compared to traditional students.
Conference Benefits / Objectives
Our goal is to deliver information, resources and skills to help conference attendees better manage their day to day operational activities and facilitate "big picture" strategic efforts through:
- Worldwide networking opportunities for faculty, staff, and students who work with or are non-traditional students.
- Rejuvenation of personal efforts to improve campus climate for non-traditional students.
- Programs that offer information regarding best practices in: adult student services, research & assessment, adult learning and adult development.
- Information regarding the latest advances in distance education
- Access to businesses who provide services for the adult learner community
- Enhancement of understanding of non-traditional student issues
- Better understanding of theoretical adult development concepts
- Improvement of leadership skills to better meet the needs of non-traditional students
- Involvement in a group of people dedicated to working together to improve higher education for non-traditional students.
In the context of these objectives, we would like to invite you to contribute your proposals for consideration. Proposal Criteria:
- The topic must be relevant to issues concerning non-traditional students and the administrators/faculty who interact with them in academia.
